Those Who Have Come Before
There are certain questions musicians always ask each other when they meet. It's just a part of the job. One of those standard questions is always about influences. It may be a way to try and put us into our correct "box", it may be a way to get turned on to something new, but for whatever reason, the question is always asked. It is a question I have come to dread. How can a life of study be contained in a list of a few names of "favorites". Would that list be the same at any other time? What about the non-musical influences that make up so much of how we express ourselves? Ah well, I suppose the question must be answered. Here, then is a list of some of the artists who have had the most noticable impact on my music, and the artists represented in my CD collection. I suppose it is as good a place as any to start an understanding of where my music comes from. Remember though, it is just a start. For more, you must dig much, much deeper. As Gordon Sumner stated so well, "You still know nothin' 'bout me."
