January 2005

So the shelves are finished, we'll see if they actually remain upright! The studio has a lot more space now, though, which is nice for rehearsals.

The Will McBride Group played the Vineyard Coffeeshop last night again. Great crowd, the group sounded really tight (from where I was sitting, anyway!). Even the mistakes sounded better! Hopefully the word is starting to get out about this group, I think good things could happen. We're going into the studio this weekend to record a demo, then we start shopping the festivals!

RiverRhythms in Durham is sponsoring a series of West African drum classes, one per month for 2005
Second Saturday! Second Saturday! Second Saturday!
Put it in your brain, and put it on your calendar. Every month, the Second Saturday! (see the easy to remember aliteration?)
Where: 4907 Garrett Road, Durham (Eno River UU Fellowship)
When: Second Saturday of each month, 4-6 pm
Cost: $15/person.
I'm still lining up teachers for the whole year, but can announce some of them:
January 15th (ok, this is the third saturday, but it's the only one) Osei Appegiagyei Osei gave a great class last time! we're excited to have him back. more info at http://www.osei.8m.com/
February 12 Amadou Koyate. Another great teacher who is deeply rooted in traditional west african music, and excellent at communicating it to all levels of drummers. more info at http://www.memoryofafricanculture.org/amadoukouyate.html
for more info about the class series or about RiverRhythms, contact RJ at rrrhythm@aol.com, or 919-309-0653
Although RiverRhythms and this class series is sponsored by the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, you need not be a member of the church to take part in these programs. Ten percent of all registration fees will be donated to ERUFF in gratitude for supporting these programs.
